Westwood Volunteer Opportunities
The following volunteer assignments are among the most popular for our volunteers:
Child Life/Child Development
(must be over 16 years of age)
Volunteer with the Mattel Children’s Hospital at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. The purpose of working in Child Life/Child Development is to care for the psychosocial aspects/needs of the child. Volunteers may assist in the Teen Lounge and the Children’s Playroom in addition to assisting with the computer system in the multimedia room. There may also be opportunities to assist patients at the bedside. Weekday and weekend hours available.
Surgical Waiting Area/Maddie’s Room
Act as a liaison between the families in the Surgical Waiting Area and the staff in the Operating Room and Recovery Room. Check waiting family members in, explain the process and update people as information becomes available. Must be extremely customer-service oriented, empathetic and possess good communication skills.
Front Door Greeter/ Student Ambassador
Act as a front door greeter to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Escort patients and visitors, provide wheelchairs and give information as necessary. Early morning shifts available and bonus hours will be credited. Must possess excellent customer service and communication skills. Hours are Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. One two-hour shift required each week.
Information Desk (available to non-student program only)
Volunteer at one of our Information Desks located at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center or the Peter Morton 200 Medical Plaza. Greet people, look up patient room numbers and provide general information and assistance. Extensive training will be provided. Must be computer literate and possess good customer service and communication skills. Morning shift is 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and afternoon shift is 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Looking for volunteers who are dependable, reliable and will commit to coming in on scheduled days.
Patient Escort/Transport
Assist in the Patient Transport office at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Discharge patients, assists in transfers and generally help the patient escort staff. Great for students who would like to see all areas of the hospital and get clinical exposure. Shifts are everyday between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Floater Volunteer
Assigned to the Volunteer Office for one four-hour shift per week during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Help deliver patient mail and newspapers. Assignments change each shift depending on needs of department. Available for both students and non-students.
Peter Morton 200 Medical Plaza
Volunteer at one of our many clinics located at the Peter Morton 200 Medical Plaza. Greeter positions available as well as general office work. Answering telephones, clerical assignments and general assistance needed.
