What to Expect
Preparing for Surgery
All UCLA West Valley Medical Center patients have access to the UCLA Health patient portal, myUCLAhealth, and the MyChart app. myUCLAhealth offers personalized and secure online access to portions of your health information. Using myUCLAhealth, you can schedule medical appointments, communicate with your medical team, view test results, request prescription refills, pay your medical bills, and more.
For your safety, please do not eat, drink or smoke anything after 12:00 midnight on the night before your surgery unless instructed to do so by your Physician. This includes hard candy, gum, prescription medications and water. It is best to bathe or shower the night before and/or the morning of surgery. Teeth should be brushed but do not swallow water.
Contact your Physician if you will be unable to keep your scheduled appointment.
On the Day of Your Surgery
- Bring your insurance card and a photo ID, along with check or credit card to satisfy any agreed upon payment.
- You will be asked to provide the name and phone number of the person who will be driving you home.
- Do not wear jewelry or make-up.
- Have your reading glasses, hearing aids, or contacts lenses (and storage case) with you as you will be signing forms as part of the admission process.
- Children may wear their socks and pajamas and bring a favorite toy for comfort. If your child needs a bottle or sippy cup, please have one with you.
- Do not bring children who are not undergoing surgery.
- Confirm appropriate arrival time with your Physician’s office and arrive on time.
Following admission, you will be escorted to pre-op where your clinical history will be reviewed. Clothing and other personal belongings will be stored under your gurney.
Information for Patients
Financial
We will make every effort to verify insurance benefits and obtain authorizations as a courtesy to our patients. We are providers for most insurance carriers. We do ask for payment of deductibles and co-payments at the time of service. A member of our staff will call to discuss your co-payment and make financial arrangements. We do accept all major credit cards and personal checks.
Transportation
For your safety and protection, you will not be allowed to drive a motor vehicle home from the facility. You will be expected to arrange for a responsible person to drive you home. We can recommend the name of a car service should you need it. If the patient is a child, it is best to have someone along with the driver to help care for the child on the trip home.
When to notify your physician
If you cannot keep your scheduled appointment or you may be pregnant or experience any changes in your health such as cough, fever, or a cold, contact your physician immediately.
