Dr. Gad Heilweil, MD is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology and practices at the Doheny Eye Center UCLA in Pasadena. He specializes in medical and surgical retina care, offering advanced treatment for retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, and macular dystrophies.

Dr. Heilweil earned his medical degree from The Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine at Technion Institute in Israel. He completed his ophthalmology residency and served as Chief Resident at the Tel Aviv Medical Center, followed by a research fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA.

Dr. Heilweil’s research focuses on innovative treatments for retinal diseases, including clinical trials on stem cell therapies and gene therapies for conditions like AMD and Stargardt’s macular dystrophy. His work has contributed to numerous multi-center studies and high-impact publications. He has received several accolades, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Best Poster Award, and has been consistently recognized as a Top Doctor by Pasadena Magazine.
