Yijun Chen, MD

Dr. Yijun Chen is a Health Sciences Associate Clinical Professor in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Dr. Yijun Chen grew up in Hunan, China. He attended Fourth Military Medical School in Xi'an, China. He came to US to do cancer research. He did his postdoctoral training in cancer biology at Stanford University. Dr. Chen completed his surgical residency training at Stanford University, where he found his passion to become a bariatric and minimally invasive surgeon. After finishing his bariatric fellowship at Duke University, he joined UCLA Department of Surgery. He enjoys connecting with and developing partnerships with patients.

Dr. Chen once lost 15 pounds in 3 months to lower his cholesterol. That experience helped him to develop great empathy for obese patients. After seeing many happy patients after weight loss surgery during his bariatric surgery rotation at Stanford, he decided to become a bariatric surgeon because he truly believes that bariatric surgery makes a huge difference for obese patients.
