The UCLA Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine welcomes 4th year medical students from all across the country who are interested in pursuing residency training in Anesthesiology.

Why UCLA?

We believe the clinical experience is unlike anywhere else in the country. UCLA is a world-class institution, and is consistently ranked as one of the top 5 hospitals in the country by US News & World Report. This is partly due to the expertise of our surgeons across several subspecialties. You will experience complex and challenging clinical scenarios that you may not experience in other institutions. You will also interact and learn from our expert faculty, all excellent clinicians who also happen to be leaders of state and national anesthesiology organizations, medical device inventors, and recognized researchers working on fundamental topics in neuroscience and cardiovascular disease.

VISITING MEDICAL STUDENTS

Do you have specific interests?

From combined multi-organ transplants to complex neurovascular surgery, we can satisfy most interests. Simply let us know during your rotation, and we will do our best to optimize your exposure to those fields during your time with us.

Students who complete a subinternship at UCLA are able to see for themselves all of the other opportunities we are able to provide our residents.

We strongly believe spending time in a department is the best way to understand the culture and determine if it is the right place for you to spend the next 4 years of your training. Students who have done well on their subinternship have an excellent chance to match at UCLA for residency. In recent years, an average of 40% of our incoming residency class have been composed of former subinterns.

What do former subinterns say about the rotation?
