About

Dr. Daniel Rootman is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at UCLA, where he holds the Karen and Frank Dabby Chair and serves as Director of the Orbital Disease Center. He treats the entire spectrum of oculofacial plastic disorders including eyelid problems such as cancers, malpositions (turning in or turning out) and ptosis (drooping eyelids). He also specializes in scarless endoscopic tearing surgery and additionally applies these techniques for complicated orbital tumor removals. This complements his particular interest in orbital and complex skull base disease, such as thyroid orbitopathy, orbital vascular malformations and traumatic fractures. Dr. Rootman sees patients at Doheny Eye Center UCLA in Pasadena and the UCLA Stein Eye Institute in Westwood.

Dr. Rootman completed his medical degree at Queen’s University and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Toronto. He pursued fellowship training in Orbital and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery at UCLA, where he later joined the full-time academic faculty. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Science in Public Health Sciences from the University of Toronto.

An accomplished academic, Dr. Rootman has authored over 175 peer-reviewed publications and serves as a reviewer and editor for several international journals. He is dedicated to education and trains orbital surgeons both nationally and internationally.
