Brenda Soun, BS
Brenda Soun (she/her) is a first-year MPH Student in the department of Community Health Sciences. In June 2023, she graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology & Society and a minor in Global Health. Her primary research interests include maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health, and gynecologic cancers. Since undergrad, Brenda has worked under Dr. May Sudhinaraset on several research projects focused on (1) evaluating the safety/efficacy of no-test telemedicine abortion compared to clinic-based medication abortion and examining potential differences in person-centered care across these two modalities, (2) exploring social and structural factors associated with perinatal mental health conditions and assessing quality of care for birthing people of color, and (3) analyzing the sexual and reproductive health of Asian immigrant women using a life-course perspective. Brenda ultimately plans to pursue a career utilizing research to inform the development of sustainable, culturally sensitive interventions that reduce health disparities in both domestic and global settings.
