Brynne (she/her) is a first year MPH student in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. During the summer of 2023, Brynne conducted research on nutrition, stunting, and muscle loss with age among both urban and rural adults in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. Brynne graduated from UCLA in 2023 with a BA in Human Biology and Society and a BA in Spanish Community and Culture. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked with Dr. Dena Herman on a virtual nutrition education program, The Family Kitchen. This research included developing and delivering culturally appropriate and accessible nutrition resources for low-income women and children who are part of the Ventura County WIC supplemental nutrition program and was presented at the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior Conference. In the future, Brynne aspires to further investigate how the intersections of biology and social environment either help or harm vulnerable individuals and communities from the perspective of maternal and child health. She also hopes to advance policy interventions at multiple levels to directly address the maternal and infant mortality crisis both nationally and on a global scale.
