My name is Danielle Chavez (she/her/ella) and I am a MECN 1. I grew up in Modesto, CA and graduated in 2021 from the University of California, Irvine with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. During my undergraduate years I volunteered in underserved communities locally and abroad. I have worked in free clinics, elementary after-school programs, and at an orphanage in Mexico teaching children about health education. I also participated in health equity research focused on the Latinx community experiencing hypertension and diabetes. After graduation I lived in Madrid, Spain for one year as a language and cultural assistant teaching middle school and high school students English. I then returned home in 2022 and worked with UCI Health in the Department of Family Medicine as a Research Associate until the start of the MECN program. I also love reading, traveling, going out for coffee or boba, and hanging out with friends and family. I look forward to learning more about Maternal and Child Health and advocating for underserved communities!
