Ashley Hunter, MD, MS

Dr. Lewis Hunter has been seeing patients at UCLA since 2011, when she began her combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency training. She chose to practice primary care because of its comprehensive nature and longitudinal relationships with patients. Her clinical interests include preventive care and chronic disease management. Dr. Lewis Hunter also has an interest in early childhood development and literacy. She particularly loves seeing babies and children and watching them grow in between well-child visits, but she also enjoys seeing adolescents, young adults, and older adults with diverse healthcare needs.

Originally from the East Coast, she moved to LA with her husband and their two dogs. She was an undergraduate at Columbia, where she majored in Neuroscience. After college, she joined Teach For America and taught science in a public high school on the border in South Texas. She returned north for medical school at Harvard, where she continued to work with adolescents and maintain an interest in the relationship between education and health. She completed residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at UCLA and went on to complete a National Research Service Award Primary Care and Health Services Research fellowship, receiving a Masters degree in Health Policy and Management. Her research focused on behavioral interventions in public schools to promote achievement and health. She also worked with colleagues and the Office of the Surgeon General to create a report on emotional wellbeing intended to support a national campaign around wellbeing. She enjoys teaching medical students and resident physicians and also co-leads an annual health advocacy rotation for residents.
