Curriculum Overview

Didactic

The program offers a well structured didactic curriculum. All fellows attend weekly lectures on Wednesday morning which includes Journal Club, Morbidity and Mortality Conference, and a core lecture series in Pain Medicine given by staff from  various specialties (PM&R, Anesthesia, Medicine, Urology, Psychiatry, Neurology, Ob/Gyn, Psychology, Palliative care). In addition, all institutions offer daily/weekly didactic sessions. The didactics and clinical experiences are designed to prepare the pain fellow for the ABPMR Pain Medicine Certification examination.

Clinical Rotations

The goal of the program is to provide a wide diversity of experience in the field of Pain Medicine in both outpatient and inpatient settings. The rotations are approximately 45% pain and spine procedures, 10% inpatient and consultation, 5% Electrodiagnosis, 40% clinics (Pain, Spine, Pre-interventional, etc.). Training in conservative  pain management and interventional pain procedures, including minor surgical procedures (medication pumps and neurostimulators) will be emphasized. In addition to general musculoskeletal pain disorders, there will be training in the management of headache and facial pain, palliative and cancer pain.

Staff

The pain fellow will work alongside Physiatrists, Anesthesiologists, Neurologists, Psychiatrists and Psychologists in obtaining expertise in multidisciplinary pain environment.
