Kelsey Zwang, MSN, RN, is a unit director at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center in the 3NW Unit, where she focuses on leadership development, staff engagement, mentoring and mentorship, patient safety, and unit management. She began her nursing career with UCLA Health in 2012 in the Neuroscience/Trauma Intensive Care Unit at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. While working as a clinical nurse, Kelsey promoted a holistic approach to nursing, blending exceptional clinical skills with integrative therapies such as Reiki, in-bed yoga, meditation and aromatherapy to help address the psychosomatic responses in neuro/trauma patients. In 2017, Kelsey was promoted to assistant unit director for the Neuroscience Stroke Unit, where she began her formal leadership trajectory. In this role, Kelsey mentored clinicians and coached them to enhance practice and patient outcomes.
Kelsey is passionate about system-level projects that improve the safety and well-being of patients and staff. Examples of initiatives she has supported include the bereavement bundle for patients who are at the end of life, the ENFit enteral device conversion project, COVID-19 Respite Rooms, the Unity in Diversity project work through creative expression on her unit, and Workplace Violence Prevention education across UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center. She is currently working with her team to promote a zero-harm environment, focused on strong patient outcomes and staff engagement and autonomy.
