Dr. Ghassemi completed his undergraduate work at UCLA, graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in physiological science. He obtained his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine, and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He then returned to UCLA to complete his internal medicine residency and digestive diseases fellowship.

Dr. Ghassemi practices general gastroenterology, with particular interests in esophageal disorders, gastrointestinal motility and gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding.  He is the lead physician for Westwood- and Beverly Hills-based clinical practices, the associate director of clinical programs for the UCLA Robert G. Kardashian Center for Esophageal Health, and a member of the CURE Hemostasis Research Group and UCLA Colorectal Cancer Treatment Program. He has co-authored several research publications and book chapters on GI bleeding and esophageal disorders.

Dr. Ghassemi is board certified in gastroenterology. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
