Dr. Gregory Brent is a distinguished endocrinologist with extensive training and experience in clinical and research endocrinology. He received his clinical endocrinology training at Brigham and Women's Hospital and completed a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, under the mentorship of Dr. David Moore. His laboratory studies the mechanisms of thyroid hormone action in metabolic regulation and neural differentiation, as well as iodine transport in hormone-dependent cancers. Since 1989, Dr. Brent has been continuously funded through various grants, including those from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and the Department of Defense (DoD).

Dr. Brent was recently selected as a VA Senior Clinician Scientist Investigator, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to VA research while continuing to provide high-quality and timely care to Veterans. His areas of clinical research include hypothyroidism and thyroid diseases in pregnancy and in chronic kidney disease patients. He is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) and Association of American Physicians (AAP). He is past chair of the National Institutes of Health, Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology Study Section and the Endocrine Merit Review Board for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

His contributions to education and mentorship have been widely recognized with honors that include the UCLA Excellence in Education Award, induction into the UCLA Alpha Omega Alpha Society, and receipt of four pre-clinical curriculum Golden Apple Awards from medical students at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He served as secretary/chief operating officer and president of the American Thyroid Association. He has been recognized with multiple research, mentoring and service awards from the American Thyroid Association and the Endocrine Society.
