Below is the protocol to get service from the UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic at your school

Initial Contract

  • Schools that want to set up services with the UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic may contact us through email at community@jsei.ucla.edu or call us at (310) 825-2195.
  • Please have the following information ready: school name, address, phone number, fax number, email address, number of children (sorted by morning, afternoon, and full-day programs), the availability of work space.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs)

  • UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic (UMEC) partners with school districts through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that delineates the responsibilities of UMEC and the district such as coordinating consent forms for eye exams. All schools/agencies must sign a one-page form provided by UMEC.

Two-step process:

  1. Vision Screenings
  • UMEC provides free vision screenings to all students at their schools.

  1. Eye Exams and Frames Selection
  • Following the full-school vision screenings, UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic will visit the school once more to provide free eye exam to students who failed the vision screenings. On the day of the exam, students who need glasses will choose their frame on the day of the exam.
  • All students will have a variety of styles and colors of glasses to choose from in their size.
  • UMEC will order and receive the glasses, and deliver them to the respective schools in 4~6 weeks.
