The midwives are an amazing group and deserve the highest recognition for the care they provide helping women achieve a birth with minimal intervention.
We had just moved to Los Angeles when we found out we were pregnant with our first baby. I wanted to try and have a natural childbirth and chose the UCLA midwives for my prenatal care and birth. I am so thankful for this group of amazing women who guided me through my pregnancy, answered all of my questions and helped me achieve the birth stories I hoped for.
What I love most about the midwives is the amazing support they provide. When I went in for my appointments I never felt rushed. They really listen to you and go above and beyond to provide the highest level of care. The midwives are experienced professionals and when it came time to have my baby I felt ready.
My water broke before I even went into labor. I labored at home for as long as I could and by the time I got to the hospital, I was in active labor. The baby was posterior and I was having painful back labor. Shadman was the on call midwife that day. It was Shadman who suggested techniques to minimize the pain. When my labor stalled and there was talk of using forceps, it was Shadman who helped me push past it. We welcomed our daughter naturally without intervention.
When I became pregnant with my second baby four years later, it was an easy decision to go back to the midwives. My labor was exactly the same. My water broke first, the baby was posterior and my labor stalled. Shadman was the midwife on call! Her positive support and encouragement got me through a very difficult labor.
When my labor slowed down, she walked the hallways with me! There was a moment toward the end when I was ready to give up. She told me to trust my body, that I can do it. She gave me strength with her words of encouragement and believed in me. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without her and I’m very thankful for that. Our son was born happy and healthy without intervention.
I will never forget what the midwives did for me. Stacie, Harla and Shadman all played an important role bringing my children into this world. I would have had a very different experience if I went through another practice. Thank you for all that you do!
