Catherine Crespi, professor-in-residence of biostatistics in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, has been appointed by former California Governor Jerry Brown to the state’s Carcinogen Identification Committee. According to California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, members of the committee are responsible for identifying chemicals that have been shown through scientific testing to cause cancer. Crespi will serve on the committee until January 2023.
Crespi is an expert in statistical methods for the design and analysis of randomized controlled trials. Her research focuses on cancer prevention and control, cancer epidemiology, cancer survivorship, HIV/AIDS, obesity, mental health, behavioral medicine, health psychology and quality of life. She is a member of the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center.
