Rajsekar Rajaraman, MD, MS, associate professor of pediatric neurology at the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital, has received an Idea Development Award to create a system for predicting seizures in individuals with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC).

The grant, supported by the Department of Defense through the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program, will fund a computer-based model that uses EEG data to prevent seizures, assess the effectiveness of treatments, predict the likelihood of seizure recurrence, and mitigate the adverse effects of TSC-related epilepsy on brain development.

The Idea Development Award supports new research ideas that have the potential to develop high-impact findings and avenues of investigation.

Rajaraman’s epilepsy work extends to the UCLA Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Program, where over 250 children and adults with TSC have been treated. The program prioritizes a multidisciplinary approach to clinical care for children with TSC, a newly developed adult TSC neurology clinic, and clinical studies and trials that analyze methods for improving care for rare genetic conditions.

The award is active, with the study continuing through May 14, 2027.
