The UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center is proud to announce that Margaret Steele, a veteran of development and fundraising for more than 30 years, has been named Executive Director of the Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation (JCCF).
Founded in 1945, the JCCF is the single most important vehicle for raising private funds for cancer research at UCLA. In her leadership role, Steele will work closely with the cancer center board of directors and staff as well as partner with colleagues in UCLA Health Sciences to develop collaborative opportunities between the clinical and cancer research enterprises.
“Becoming a part of the Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation’s work of funding leading -edge research is a privilege,” said Steele, who has a personal connection to cancer having watched two of her family members battle the deadly disease. “Connecting visionary donors with brilliant scientists is the key to bringing an end to cancer.”
Steele comes to UCLA with a very successful career in development spanning three decades, and has worked with organizations including Carnegie Hall, The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) and, most recently, Project Angel Food.
Steele served as CEO of Project Angel Food for five years, during which she oversaw a staff of 45 and worked with a 21-member board as well as 3,500 active volunteers, to fulfill the organization’s mission of arresting malnutrition among those fighting cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases.
