Patricia A. Ganz, M.D. has been awarded the . The award recognizes outstanding research accomplishments in cancer epidemiology, biomarkers, and prevention.
Dr. Ganz is a Distinguished Professor of Medicine at the , a Distinguished Professor of Health Policy & Management at the , and associate director for population science at . The award recognizes her steadfast commitment to enhancing cancer prevention, characterizing late effects of cancer treatment, and instrumental contributions to improving the field of cancer patient survivorship through advocacy efforts to establish guideline and policy changes that have positively impacted cancer patient symptom management, supportive care, and quality of life.
“I am so honored to be the recipient of the AACR-American Cancer Society Award for Research Excellence in Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention,” said Dr. Ganz. “This award is particularly special to me as a medical oncologist without formal training in epidemiology.
“My research contributions have been informed by my clinical interactions with patients, curiosity about the etiology of their post-treatment health outcomes, and the collaborative nature of cancer epidemiology and prevention research. Team science has been a fundamental component of my research, and in that respect, I share this award with the many colleagues who early on opened my eyes to social science research and population health.”
