Give to Advance Lung Disease Research
The UCLA Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine provides outstanding care to patients experiencing a range of lung health issues, many of whom suffer from advanced lung diseases (ALD) such as transplant rejection, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, Sarcoidosis, Pulmonary Hypertension, Interstitial Lung Disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and other airway diseases. These devastating diseases significantly impact one’s quality of life.
Critical to the program’s ability to discover, treat and prevent these diseases is cutting edge clinical and translational research. A research team led by Dr. John Belperio and Dr. Joseph Lynch are pursuing research to improve lung health and lung transplantation success. These studies are focused on exploring the causes of ALDs, formulating novel treatments and developing anti-rejection and long term accommodation immune therapies for lung transplant patients.
Philanthropy plays a significant role in advancing this important research amidst an environment of decreases in government funding. To provide a stable source of ongoing funding to sustain ALD research, the program has embarked upon a campaign to raise $5 million for the Lung Health Innovation Fund.
To provide a stable source of ongoing funding to sustain ALD research, the program has embarked upon a campaign to raise $20 million to create an Advanced Lung Disease Center.
