The Chicano Health Movement Legacy Project
The Chicano Health Movement Legacy Project
Absent from previous histories of the Chicano Movement is any narrative of the Chicano Health movement. While most Chicano histories bemoan the end of the Chicano Movement by the mid-1970s, the Chicano Health movement created a number of enduring health institutions—clinics, professional practices, professional associations, health professional student groups, and an active research effort—that have continued to provide service to the Latino communities of California for more than fifty years.
The Chicano Health Movement Legacy Project is preparing a publication for use in undergraduate Chicano studies courses and for graduate health sciences courses on the Chicano Health Movement. After publication, the oral history interviews used as sources will be made available to the public via the UCLA Center for Oral History Research.
