Clinical Social Work Internship Program
The MSW Internship Program at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center hosts students from UCLA, USC, CSU Northridge, and CSU Long Beach. Our MSW students receive excellent clinical training in the Department of Clinical Social Work at UCLA. Training at UCLA provides students the unique opportunity to learn and practice social work skills in a major urban medical center partnered with a leading medical school. UCLA supports top ranking clinical training programs for all professionals in health care including physicians, advanced practice nurses, spiritual care providers, and physical and occupational therapists. The MSW students find themselves in an environment dedicated to their learning and growth.
Clinical Social Work interns are placed with a primary field instructor and a medical specialty. Additionally, they have the opportunity to precept with other clinicians in most areas of UCLA Medical Center in the Spring semester. Placements include both in and out patient settings and with both adult and pediatric services. For example, the students for the upcoming year will be placed in adult liver and bone marrow transplant services, adult neurosurgical intensive care settings, pediatric heart and liver transplant services, the neonatal intensive care unit, or the high-risk obstetric clinic Students are continuously challenged to accept more responsibility, expand their scope of experience and their clinical skills, interact with a multidisciplinary team of professionals and explore avenues for system-wide improvement.
The internship program includes:
- Weekly individual supervision
- Weekly group supervision
- Monthly staff development and continuing education opportunities
- Access to multidisciplinary education including Ethics, Grand Rounds, Neuropsychiatry Grand Rounds, and various research symposia
