The LRC offers discounts for patients who opt to have surgery performed by a UCLA trainee.

We have two categories of ophthalmologist trainees.

The first is fellows who have completed medical school, an internship, and 3 years of ophthalmology residency training. Our fellows are currently undergoing an additional year of anterior segment eye surgery training. A UCLA faculty ophthalmologist supervises their procedures. Charges associated with fellow care are shown below.

The charges are per eye and should be doubled if both eyes will undergo surgery.

1. Fellow in Training Discount

The second consists of 3rd year residents who have completed medical school, an internship, and 2 years of ophthalmology residency training. A UCLA faculty ophthalmologist supervises their procedures. Charges associated with resident care are shown below.

2. Resident in Training Discount

Any required enhancement or treatment of a complication will be performed by a trainee, often different from the one who performed the initial procedure, but under faculty supervision, if a discounted service is chosen.

To schedule a consultation with a fellow or resident in training, make this request known when you call a UCLA faculty ophthalmologist to schedule your screening examination.

The 10% Bruin discount is not available to those electing the trainee discount.
