Education
The IMC Education Pillar is leading a paradigm shift in medical education to focus on whole-person health. IMC physicians teach students and clinicians about integrative medicine through organized events, such as conferences, symposiums and continuing medical education. The Education Pillar aims to empower patients with low-cost/low- barrier strategies to improve their health, prepare physicians to recommend integrative approaches for their patients and engage people in conversations about lifestyle choices that enhance well-being.
Research
The IMC Research Pillar develops and leads research, and UCLA also mentors providers in the science behind integrative medicine. Research studies done by IMC faculty are available online for patients, clinicians, staff and community members seeking information on the latest innovations in the field.
The Future of Medicine
The IMC has the potential to improve outcomes and reduce the burden of complications from chronic disease. Integrative medicine has been shown to shorten hospital stays, improve patient outcomes and reduce complications as well as the number of treatments and follow-up appointments.
In 1993, UCLA Health became the first academic medical center in Southern California to offer integrative medicine. In the years since, UCLA Health has merged more than 40 programs into the UCLA Health Integrative Medicine Collaborative to connect patients to these therapies.
