Jim Ahern Jr., MD

Dr. Jim Ahern is a board-certified Family Physician working in the UCLA Health – Ventura office, offering a full-spectrum of primary care services, covering all ages and populations, including prenatal and obstetric care.

Dr. Ahern took a circuitous route to medicine, initially attending the University of Colorado at Boulder as an English major with emphasis in Creative Writing. After an 8-year career in the tech world, including a 1-year hiatus living abroad in Costa Rica, Dr. Ahern heard the call to medicine, and returned to CU-Boulder where he completed his Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Certificate. He then completed medical school in Connecticut at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, followed his Family Medicine residency at Ventura County Medical Center where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. Ahern is excited to bring his broad scope of services to UCLA Health, and looks forward to practicing widely within Ventura. Some of his areas of focus include women's health and obstetric care, office procedures, Hepatitis C treatment, and opioid use disorder treatment with buprenorphine. Dr. Ahern values the importance of the doctor-patient relationship, understanding that the best outcomes occur when patients and physicians work together toward the patient's goals.

When not in the office, Dr. Ahern enjoys surfing, rock climbing, running, reading literature, playing guitar, and spending time with his wife and puppy.
