James Tomlinson, MD, PhD received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1995. He was trained in General Surgery at UCLA, finishing in 2003. He also obtained his PhD degree in molecular biology at UCLA, and then completed a Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2005. Dr. Tomlinson has been Chief of Surgical Oncology, at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA and Attending Surgeon in the Division of Surgical Oncology at UCLA since 2005. He has an active surgical oncology practice that is focused on pancreatic and biliary cancers.
Dr. Tomlinson's basic science research efforts are focused on the development and evaluation of novel targeted imaging agents against pancreas cancer. Currently, he is evaluating the potential of Anti-CA19-9 and Anti-CEA engineered antibody fragments to serve as PET-imaging agents of pancreas cancer. He also performs outcomes research which addresses clinical questions in the management of pancreas cancer.
