Dr. Jose A. Pineda Soto is Director of Pediatric Neurocritical Care and Health Sciences Clinical Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Dr. Pineda Soto completed residency training in Pediatrics, fellowship training in Pediatric Critical Care with special emphasis on neuroprotection research, and a Master of Science in Clinical Research. He established one of the first funded Pediatric Neurocritical Care Programs in the United States and served as founding Chair of the Pediatric Neurocritical Care Research Group, an international group of over 40 institutions dedicated to advancing research for children with critical neurological illnesses.
In addition to having robust clinical expertise in neurocritical care, Dr. Pineda Soto has conducted translational research on the mechanisms of acute brain injury (particularly severe traumatic brain injury), implementation of evidence-based practices, validation of electronic decision support tools, and identification of clinically actionable biomarkers to optimize care.
He has authored and co-authored high impact manuscripts in the field Pediatric Critical Care. He has been principal and site investigator in NIH clinical research trials as well as Steering Committee member, Data and Safety Monitoring Board Chair, and member of study sections at NINDS and NICHD. Dr. Pineda Soto has served as mentor to numerous students, trainees, and junior faculty. He is a member of the Critical Care Medicine Sub-Board of the American Board of Pediatrics, the Society for Pediatric Research and the Neurocritical Care Society.
