My doctor was detailed and clear in her explanations. She spoke to me in a most respectful, sensitive and compassionate way at all times. With respect to the results of a chest CT, she took the time to show me images from the CT and explained how the findings in the written report related to the images on the screen. She explained in a detailed way what they meant, always checking to be sure I was understanding her descriptions and information. She described what symptoms I should report to her and, if they should appear, how we would continue to monitor and make use of specialists if warranted. With respect to elevated A1c levels and weight issues, Dr Winston put me at ease, showed that she understood the challenges I was facing, and presented several options going forward. We decided on a trial of Metformin (which may help reduce my A1c levels and possibly help me with weight loss) and she reviewed possible negative side effects of the medication. I will keep in touch with her about my experience with a low dose of Metformin and we will proceed with possible increases in dosage. Dr. Winston always makes crystal clear that she is available to me if I have any questions or concerns. She leaves me feeling heard, and like I have a doctor on my side. I walk away from a meeting with Dr Winston more determined than ever to continue with my diet and exercise lifestyle changes.
