Marilyn M. McGowan, MD

Dr. Marilyn McGowan is an internal medicine-trained primary care physician in San Luis Obispo. Her philosophy of care balances the art and science of medicine, ensuring that each treatment plan is patient-centered and tailored to the unique needs of every individual and their condition. Her clinical interests include preventative medicine, women’s health, and longitudinal care.

Dr. McGowan received her undergraduate degree with highest departmental honors in biology from UCLA. She then attended medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine, where she graduated cum laude and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and Gold Humanism Honors Society. While in medical school, she was active in the arts and humanities and started a teaching kitchen elective for medical students. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Stanford University where she was selected by her peers as the recipient of the Julian Wolfshon Award, the Charles Dorsey Armstrong Award, and the Brooke Gabster Patient-Centered Medicine Award.

Dr. McGowan was born and raised in Chico, California. She is from a long line of tree farmers and is delighted to be in San Luis Obispo, where so many of her relatives received their agriculture education. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, yoga, running, and spending time with her family, especially her husband and dog.
