About
Dr. Sawlani is an Assistant Clinical Professor within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Division of Primary Care Sports Medicine. At UCLA, Dr. Sawlani specializes in the care of athletes and active individuals of all ages with non-surgical orthopaedic conditions and sports-related injuries. She is considered an expert in non-surgical orthopaedic issues and performs in-office minimally invasive orthopaedic procedures including:
· Ultrasound-guided joint injections (knee, hip, shoulder, ankle)
· Orthobiologic injections including hyaluronic acid and platelet-rich plasma (PRP)
In addition to her UCLA Health clinical practice, she is a team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Sparks, UCLA Women’s Basketball, and UCLA Women’s Swim & Dive. She has also served as a team physician for USA Basketball, covering the Women’s National Team in 2023-24 during training camps, exhibition games, and FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. She has previously served as a team physician for Santa Monica High School; UCLA Baseball, Women’s Volleyball, and Beach Volleyball; as well as assistant team physician for the Los Angeles Lakers during her fellowship training. She is a faculty member for the UCLA Sports Medicine fellowship and assists in the training of fellows and residents.
Dr. Sawlani completed her Sports Medicine fellowship training at UCLA. She completed her residency training in Family Medicine at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, where she was elected Chief Resident, and she also served as the national Family Medicine Representative for the AMSSM Sports Medicine Resident Council. She earned her medical degree from Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine in Henderson, Nevada. She received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she was a Sports Medicine Aide for the Northwestern University football team. She is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, where she serves on the Education Committee.
Dr. Sawlani has participated in many sports (from badminton and basketball, to tap dancing and track) throughout her youth. She was a captain/choreographer for the Northwestern University Bhangra dance team and continues to have a passion for dance. She currently enjoys Lagree/Megaformer workouts, HIIT workouts and recreational running.
Dr. Sawlani partners with her patients to develop an individualized treatment plan. She advocates for them to engage in healthy lifestyles and help them return to the activities they love.
