Shawn Whelan, DO

Dr. Shawn Whelan is a primary care physician who practices in Ventura. He takes an integrative approach to optimizing each patient’s health by treating the whole individual and combining evidence-based medicine with a focus on lifestyle, including nutrition, exercise, and emotional wellbeing. He is board certified in family medicine and sees patients of all ages and backgrounds, with added focus in pediatrics, women's health, sports medicine, dermatology, bleeding disorders and osteopathic manipulation. He is proficient in Spanish and German.

Dr. Whelan grew up in Woodland Hills. He received his medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, and completed his family medicine residency at Kaiser Woodland Hills. He received distinctions for his community outreach, wellness advocacy and research activities. He completed his undergraduate studies at UCSD, and then researched immunology related to hemophilia in Vienna, Austria for four years. Before starting at UCLA Health, Dr. Whelan worked in adult and pediatric urgent care for Kaiser Permanente.

When he's not in the office, Dr. Whelan enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, traveling, exploring, and playing in the outdoors — especially the ocean and mountains.
