About

Dr. William Shyy is a board-certified Associate Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at UCLA with particular expertise in using ultrasound imaging in emergency care. Dr. Shyy earned his medical degree at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. He completed a residency and chief residency in emergency medicine at the University of Chicago, followed by a fellowship in emergency ultrasound at UCSF. While faculty at UCSF, he was the Director of Emergency Ultrasound, Ultrasound Fellowship Director, and a Bridges Coach in the UCSF SOM. He currently holds the role of Director of Emergency Ultrasound at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center and Santa Monica Medical Center, and is an Educator for Excellence in the DGSOM. He works clinically at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center and Santa Monica Medical Center. He is a national leader in emergency medicine education and serves on national committees for the American College of Emergency Physicians. In research, Dr. Shyy focuses on bedside applications of ultrasound, with the goal of improving care for patients being seen in the emergency department.
