Yih-Dar Nien, MD

Dr. Nien is a highly skilled general surgeon based in the Santa Clarita Valley. As a Board-Certified surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he is dedicated to delivering exceptional surgical care and advancing the field through his expertise and commitment. Dr. Nien’s journey into medicine is marked by a rich multicultural background; he was born in Taiwan and grew up in Chile, South America. He obtained his medical degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he laid the foundation for his medical career. To broaden his professional horizons, he moved to the United States to specialize in surgery.

Dr. Nien completed his internship at the University of Southern California, followed by his general surgery residency at Marshall University in West Virginia. Since achieving Board Certification in 2008, he has been actively practicing general surgery, continuously refining his skills to provide outstanding care. Before joining UCLA, Dr. Nien gained nearly 15 years of experience at City of Hope, with practice locations in Antelope Valley, Santa Clarita, and Mission Hills. His time at City of Hope allowed him to enhance his surgical techniques and deepen his knowledge in General Surgery and Cancer care, while building strong, lasting relationships with his patients.

Dr. Nien’s extensive experience is further complemented by his ability to connect with patients from diverse backgrounds. His multicultural upbringing and linguistic skills enable him to communicate effectively in Spanish, Mandarin, and Taiwanese, making him a compassionate and relatable healthcare provider for a wide range of patients. In his free time, Dr. Nien enjoys traveling and exploring new cultures, spending quality time with his family, and engaging in hobbies such as 3D printing and gardening. He is also passionate about continuous learning and strives to stay updated with the latest advancements in both his professional and personal interests.
