Care Compliments

Carolina G.

Dealing with diabetes is difficult. Having a change in one's condition and watching a loved one deal with changes is even more difficult. My husband was recently hospitalized and placed on steroids that significantly altered his blood glucose levels. As a result, my husband and I had to learn how to manage his diabetes through insulin administration. Carolina took the task of educating my husband and I on this daunting task. From her first hello, I quickly realized Carolina is a very special person. Carolina embodies what it means to be a nurse. She is compassionate, highly educated, and able to convey information in such a manner that is easily accessible to two elderly individuals in a vulnerable position. We are so grateful and happy to learn from Carolina. Due to her welcoming approach and skilled teaching, we were both able to not only administer insulin correctly, but also understand why this was necessary. She was patient, non-judgmental and answered all of our questions with grace and ease. We both left that education session feeling confident to tackle this challenge. Thank you Carolina for all of your hard work and dedication to teaching us, you have tremendously impacted our lives for the better. Thank you.

Dear UCLA,
Today I had to go to your emergency room, where your welcoming team (Michael and others), your nurse Matthew Morrison, your x-ray technician Mona, and your doctor Lisa Dabby, took such extraordinary kind, patient, quick, but painstaking care of me that I had to write you this letter as soon as I got home.

One reads all kinds of articles about the mistakes which are made these days in medicine, but one rarely hears about the touchdowns, the slam dunks, the home runs that are made these days in medicine. Your team, under the direction I assume of your administrators and your doctors are providing precise, skillful medical treatment in such a professional organized and dignified way. I watched one male nurse put a patient at ease by taking her to a CAT scan room as though he were taking her to the prom. She laughed and I saw the tension drain away from her face. I saw your nurse Matthew Morrison treating two homeless men with so much kindness, respect and DIGNITY that it left me emotional, and all of this afforded to me as well.

[The same with your reassuring X-Ray tech Mona, and all of your staff]

At each step, one of your team checked in with me, making sure I was okay, asking if I needed a warm sheet or anything that would make me comfortable. Letting me know how my tests were going and updating me with the timing of things. And finally Doctor Dabby, putting me at ease with her warm, friendly bedside manner and easy-to-understand diagnoses. If you or your loved one had to be in an ER, you would want them to be treated by Doctor Dabby, Mona, Matthew, Michael and everyone else working on Thursday September 5th.

I know that their is only a place to recognize one team member at a time, but would you please give a hearty thank you of recognition to everyone who was on your staff tonight and especially Dr Lisa Dabby, nurse Michael (who's shift ended a bit earlier than everyone else's, Mona and Matthew Morrison) because I have never seen an ER team work so hard, not only to provide top-notch, 5-star care, but also to make everyone, no matter how rich or poor, how sick or well, feel like a valuable member of society, like a person who deserves great care and like someone that they're truly happy to help. You have rare, wondeful magic going on in that ER and I don't know how you do it, but you are all practicing medicine the way it has always wanted to be practiced. Bravo and thank you so so much. For saving lives while also providing care that makes people feel dignified and valued. I am grateful to you. Gerry K

I got a chance to be at the hospital with my mother during the first 3 days of her stay in the ICU while she was in the care of Nurse Shin. Nurse Shin has the perfect disposition for an ICU Nurse. She was warm, positive and very knowledgeable. She answered all my questions even when it was a simple question I got a wealth of information which was so comforting and reassuring. She really spends her time with her patients. I want to thank all the UCLA ICU nurses who took great care of my mother. My mother was sad and teary when she was moved to a regular room as she will miss all the nurses in the ICU and is so grateful to them for their quality care.

Maddie D.

My wife was POD 2 after removal of PFO closure device. My wife slept most of POD 1 and did not walk and barely got up. Maddie set a plan of care for my wife at the beginning of her shift. One big goal was to walk. My wife did not feel up to it but Maddie was firm and caring and was able to have my wife complete her first walk by 0830. Through out the day Maddie was firm with the plan and my wife walked 3 times during the shift, sat in a chair with all meals, and had the chest tube removed. Without Maddie's plan and caring attitude my wife would not have progress as fast. My wife was behind in her goals of recovery with Maddie my wife was able to get back on track and able to leave the ICU the next morning . My wife was discharged on POD 4 because of Maddie's care. Maddie is an outstanding nurse that has an understanding how to approach patients. The care Maddie provides is compassionate and she is able to create a healing environment for her patients. UCLA medical center is lucky to have such an outstanding nurse.

I'd like to thank Dr. Castaneda for his fine care and attention to detail that he provided to my wife in our recent two day stay at Henry Mayo. I was concerned about the care that my wife was getting until Dr. Castaneda showed up and took charge. He provided my wife and I a great deal of confidence as a result of his concern and his actions. Good job!!

Jacqueline F.

Dr. Fahey was incredible! She made me feel very comfortable in a particularly uncomfortable medical experience. She fully explained everything she was doing before she did it. I did not feel like she was rushing at all and she connected with me. I'm grateful to have had a doctor like her!

Carla J.

Dr. Carla Janzen was my obstetrician through two high risk pregnancies and most recently through a series of early miscarriages. I have always been struck by her ability to combine her expert clinical skills with a genuine compassion and understanding rarely found in the field. I left my recent appointments feeling secure that I'd been taken care of medically, and feeling emotionally reassured about the difficult experiences I'd just been through. Thank you so much, Dr. Janzen!

Laleh J.

Dr Laleh Jalilian was a fantastic anesthesiologist for a nervous patient like myself who had never had surgery before. She was so warm and caring and immediately put me at ease when we met in person in the preoperative area. She checked in on me in the recovery area after my surgery as well to see how things went, and I felt so cared for. My husband immediately trusted her and told me privately that he felt good putting my life in her hands. She was an outstanding doctor and I can't thank her enough.

Lorraine A.

I so appreciate of Dr Lorraine Anderson ! I am a long standing I.VI.G. patient and Dr. Anderson is my new lifeline physician this past year. I am so pleased with her professionalism, caring ways, knowledge and accessibility. It is so nice to have a physician prepared for your follow up visits, there to remind you of things that you may have forgotten, making sure your questions and concerns have been addressed in a comfortable fashion, etc. A good physician/patient relationship is the cornerstone to receiving the best possible medical care. I posted on Yelp. I do look at medical care with a bit of a critical eye which comes for a long background of listening to patients concerns. I would refer anyone to Dr, Anderson with great confidence and comfort.
