Care Compliments

Raquel, Tiffany and Cat RNs, Marco Cutino, PCT, in TRU. Carmen and Richard, volunteers in surgery waiting. Justin and Stephani, RNs PACU U.

I want to take this opportunity to give a shout out to the amazing staff and volunteers at UCLA Medical Center - Santa Monica. My sister recently had surgery that required an overnight stay in TRU and from the moment that we walked into the surgery waiting area until her discharge 24 hours later everyone we came into contact with was amazing. Richard and Carmen from Volunteer Services were both so kind and informative. Justin, RN and Stephanie, RN in PACU were attentive and responsive to our questions. Raquel, Tiffany and Cat the RNs in TRU were efficient, friendly and responsive. And a special Kudos to Marco Cutino,PCT in TRU who took the time to make sure my sister had everything she needed. During that time I discovered Marco use to work at the same hospital in Phoenix that I work at and I was able to pass his message on to his former leader. What a small world! Being a healthcare provider myself, I know that many times that the people who make a positive impact are not recognized. So I'm extremely happy that I can recognize the wonderful team you have at your facility. Thank you and keep up the excellent work!!!

Ambulatory Surgery Center Staff A.

I want to send a big thank you to every staff member that assisted me throughout my visit to the Ambulatory Surgery Center. From the reception desk staff in the waiting room, to the nurse who helped me tie up the back of my hospital gown, to the nurse who wheeled me out when I was leaving -- AND EVERYONE IN BETWEEN -- I am very grateful for having been treated with dignity, respect and a smile. From the nursing team, to the anesthesiology team, to the surgical team, to the overnight team, there were so many people I interacted with, all of whom are at the top of their game, that I don't want to name any names for fear of leaving someone out. So I will send this commendation out to everyone. Thank you.

I was admitted due to IC and impending loss of our son. My husband and I couldn't have asked for a better RN by our side during this time. She was such an amazing advocate for me that I felt I was a part of her family. She was really supportive in my care and very attentive to my needs as well as my husbands needs. She was thorough with nurses during shift changes & ensured me that I will continue to receive exceptional care. We adore her so much. It's obvious she loves what she does.

Casey W.

I cannot begin to describe how wonderful Casey Weber has been. She does the scheduling for the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Casey has always been so friendly and helpful, going out of her way to help me with whatever need I have. She is truly an asset to UCLA.

Ami P.

I would like to commend and show my appreciation for Dr. Ami Philipp. I transferred to UCLA health after having a lot of difficulty navigating and getting adequate care through Healthcare Partners and Optum. I went from having a particularly frustrating experience with healthcare to an incredibly positive experience. Dr. Philipp actually listened to what my concerns were. She was very patient and explained her recommendations thoroughly. This has meant a lot to me because I take an active role in my own health and want to actively take part in the decision making process for these matters. I never expected to find myself in the health conundrum that I have found myself in, but she has been extremely helpful in navigating it. I have had more answers in 6 months to a year since I have been under her care than I did in 5 years with my previous doctor/health group. I not only feel comfortable entrusting my care (or a family member's care) with Dr. Philipp, but she has also restored my trust in the healthcare system as a whole.

Susan M.

When first recommended, Dr. Susan McCloskey was described to me as a "rockstar." And recent experience has proven that estimation correct! Her expertise, coupled with her kind and conscientious approach, made the daunting process of radiation so much easier. She remains genuinely invested in each of her patients, and I feel blessed to be under the superlative care of Dr. McCloskey, her wonderful team, and all those at the UCLA Santa Monica Breast Center!

more than one M.

I needed to get a bone scan and a mammogram and when I scheduled I worried the scheduler had not left enough time between appointments but I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did we have time to spare but we got both done in under an hour. Your staff there are always so friendly and efficient. They really know what they are doing. Big thumbs up!

Sal D.

Sal was incredibly helpful in coming up with a creative last minute solution to facilitate safe administration of the patient's PSMA PET scan. The patient needed to stop taking Metformin before the test. He lives in a retirement facility where the staff administers his prescriptions. They were unable to reach his Primary Care Physician in time to put the proper pause on the medication and needed, instead, some kind of official authorization from UCLA for the patient to follow the PSMA PET instructions concerning Metformin. Sal advised me to go to the patient's MyChart to screen shot and print out the PSMA PET appointment details, which include these Metformin instructions, and to provide them to the retirement facility staff.

Thanks for thinking outside the box to maximize patient care and help keep him on his UCLA treatment schedule!

Outstanding bedside manner!! Should be nominated for medstaff physician of the year! An exemplary role model for doctors in training. He was so patient and kind to my mother. My mom can be anxious and worry a lot. He was reassuring and put her mind at ease. With his pep talk, she felt more confident about the months of recovery ahead. He took the time to sit down and listen to all of our concerns and answer all of our questions. He was great at explaining in simple terms for my mom to understand and clear about his plan and recommendations for the day. And explaining his thought process and his reasoning behind his recommendations and why they might have changed from day to day. My mom is a chatterbox and very open about her life stories and matters not necessarily relevant to her acute medical care. Dr. Timothy Cushing was always calm and not in a rush. Even when we were just waiting for insurance auth, He never made us feel less important than the other patients on his list. He always did a relevant physical exam too. He also was willing to advocate for my mom with the insurance company. He never expressed a begrudging attitude towards the extra work.

Raquel C.

Raquel has been a blessing being here at the hospital. Raquel has put in extra effort to make my stay as pleasant as possible. Making bad situations into something bearable and making embarrassing times as something to laugh about rather than cry about. She has consistently and genuinely been the perfect nurse that went beyond perfect and should win nurse of the year award after having several nurses for the last couple weeks. She deserves in the very least this letter of recognition for her great job, she is an exceptional human being. Thank you Raquel from the deepest part of my heart,

Christina, Sender & Sandy U.

I want to thanks the radiology team that we saw. My daughter needed an X-ray and we ran over right after school. It had been a really busy day for the team, but Christina helped squeeze us in, and Sender was SO great with my daughter. He took the time to make her feel comfortable, explain what was happening, and smile throughout, even when it had been such a long day. Sandy was also really great in helping the experience feel less intimidating for my child. I just wanted to take an opportunity to say thank you to the three of you for providing the level of service you did. Don't always get that at appointments and hospitals, but you all left an impression. Thank you!

Mina J.

Although it took a very long time due to limited staffing, to be seen by a lactation consultant, once we were seen by Mina not only did our technique breastfeeding dramatically improve but our confidence in being able to breastfeed properly did too. Hospitals NEED more trained specialists like Mina who can be more available to teach the nuances of such an important topic such as breastfeeding! Thank you so much for sharing your experience and expertise with us!

By: Monica G.

Tiffany P.

Most everybody in the department was exceptionally sweet and caring but Tiffany took our comfort and care to the next level! She helped us the best she could with caring for complications during labor and made us feel very calm leading up to our eventual emergency C section. Everything from how knowledgeable she was to her extreme empathy and her expertise and professionalism when it came to our care took our experience from a 10/10 to a 15/10! We truly feel mutually bonded to her and look forward to updating her later on in our babies life! Thanks so incredibly much Tiffany!
