Headshot of DAPM Fellow, Nicole Shalit, MD

Nicole Shalit, MD

Hometown: Calabasas, CA
Undergraduate: University of California, Irvine
Medical School: American Program at Tel Aviv University
Why I chose UCLA: I have so many reasons I chose UCLA! The program is excellent and has a large, critically ill population I can learn from. I know being at program like UCLA will give me the opportunity to be the best critical care anesthesiologist I can be. Also, being away from home for 8 years, and 4 of them away from the sun. I am happy to be back in the sunshine!

I am a Southern California native who has been away from home for too long. I was a violinist (although I still am one at heart) and now anesthesiologist. I do play from time to time. I love the beach and hiking. I am also glad to be back cheering for the Lakers, Dodgers, Kings, and Rams!

Headshot of DAPM Fellow June Tong, MD

June Tong, MD

Hometown: Torrance, CA
Undergraduate: University of California, Irvine
Medical School: Saint Louis University School of Medicine
Why I chose UCLA: I chose UCLA's Critical Care Anesthesia Fellowship for its reputation of excellence in anesthesia education. The faculty here foster a supportive environment conducive to mentorship and professional development, while the exposure to a diverse, complex patient population provides ample opportunity to develop the skills necessary for managing critically ill patients. Lastly, being located in Southern California has allowed me to remain close to my family and support network while pursuing my career in anesthesia critical care.

Dr. June Tong has a background in biomedical engineering, and still enjoys keeping up with programming simple projects. In addition she is a visual arts enthusiast and hobbyist, willing to dabble in all sorts of media (acrylic paint, pumpkin carving, photography, etc.). Dr. Tong has entered art contests and local chalk art festivals in her free time, and has won awards for her artwork in multiple competitions. She is also a big fan of playing video games, particularly the Legend of Zelda series, in her free time.
