Hometown: Averill Park, NY
Undergraduate: University of North Carolina Wilmington, BS Biology
Medical School: New York Medical College
Residency: Anesthesiology, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
Michael John Gyorfi, MD
Hometown: Eau Claire, WI
Undergraduate: The University of Wisconsin - La Crosse
Medical School: The University of Wisconsin School of medicine and Public Health
Residency: Anesthesiology, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
Why I chose UCLA: I chose UCLA Health for my pain management fellowship because of its exceptional training opportunities, diverse patient population, and the broad range of procedures offered. This is in addition to the beautiful Southern California climate and lifestyle compared to the harsh Wisconsin winters.
Dr. Michael Gyorfi enjoys being outside when not taking care of patients. You'll find him on the slopes snowboarding or at Venice beach surfing, possibly both in the same day here in SoCal!

Undergraduate: University of Southern California
Medical School: Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis

Why I chose UCLA: I spent 8 years in the Midwest and in San Francisco, so it was time to come back home to Los Angeles! I always planned on practicing in SoCal, and UCLA has everything I was looking for in a fellowship program. I'm confident UCLA will push me to become a great pain doc, and hopefully I can make cool friends while I'm here too
Outside of the hospital, I'm looking for a tennis team in West LA! I was varsity captain in high school and am now very rusty. I try to workout so that I can try new restaurants, bars, and new food/baking recipes at home
Kristina Lynne Michaud, DO, MS
Hometown: San Diego, CA
Undergraduate: University of Maryland
Graduate: Georgetown University
Medical School: Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine
Residency:
Why I chose UCLA: I chose UCLA due to the plethora of procedural and clinical experience I knew I would have here. UCLA is known for being a program that is heavily procedural which is exactly what I was looking for. They are up to date on all the latest and greatest advancements and the attendings here are eager to add these techniques to their practice. Also, the patient population in clinic tends to be challenging which is a benefit while in training.
I am a mother and a wife and currently those two tasks take up much of my spare time! My husband, Andy, and I have a beautiful baby boy named Bolden, and another little one on the way! We love spending our weekends exploring Santa Monica and also other places throughout sunny Southern California. We will be moving to a suburb of Atlanta, GA, soon, as I will be starting private practice there soon so we are trying to soak up as much CA sun before our big move.
Ryan Nguyen, MD
Hometown: Westminster, California
Undergraduate: University of California, Irvine
Medical School: University of California, Irvine
Residency:
Why I chose UCLA: I chose UCLA's interventional pain program because of its well-established reputation of excellence in chronic pain management. I was eager to learn from mentors at UCLA who value a multidisciplinary approach in treating pain, and who have the knowledge to teach me about the diverse and innovative techniques in interventional pain within the recent years.
Dr. Ryan Nguyen loves spending his free time with his wife and two cats. He enjoys exploring LA and discovering all the newest restaurants around the area. He also loves to express himself musically. He has played piano since he was the age of 6, and turns to piano improvisation and song-writing as a way of expressing himself. In addition, he also enjoys watching and playing basketball, and was lucky enough to be able to play the late great Kobe Bryant in a game of 1-on-1 basketball a few years ago.
