Maggy Riad, MD, Appointed Expert Reviewer for Medical Board of California

Maggy Riad, MD, has been appointed as an Expert Reviewer for the Medical Board of California. As described by the Medical Board of California, the Expert Reviewer Program was established in July 1994 as an impartial and professional means by which to support the investigation and enforcement functions of the Board. Specifically, medical experts assist the Board by providing expert reviews and opinions on Board cases and conducting professional competency exams, physical exams and psychiatric exams."

Dr. Riad describes that the role of the Expert Reviewer is "to review claims filed with the medical board and determine whether or not it has merit. If it is found to warrant an investigation, then it is referred to the Expert Reviewer to identify any departures from the standards of care." Expert Reviewers provide critical clinical expertise and testimony regarding complaints about the practice of medicine and assist investigators, prosecutors, and administrative law judges in understanding the medical aspects of cases.
