Natalie Moreland, MD Appointed Director, Division of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology

Natalie Moreland, MD, Assistant Professor, has been appointed as Director, Division of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at UCLA!

Dr. Moreland joined the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at UCLA in 2015, after completing an Anesthesiology Residency at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago in 2012, a Fellowship in Neuroanesthesia at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago in 2013, and after spending two years as an instructor of Anesthesiology at this institution from 2013 to 2015. Since joining our Department, Dr. Moreland has made several significant contributions to the Division of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology in particular and to our Department in general. She has served as the Director of Anesthesia for Spine Surgery at UCLA-Santa Monica Hospital and Ronald Reagan Medical Center since 2015, the Co-Director the UCLA Neuroanesthesia Fellowship and Co-Chair of our Department’s Quality Improvement Committee since 2020. In each of these roles, Dr. Moreland has made significant impact and has greatly contributed to the growth of our Department. She has also been a member of several instrumental committees in our Department, such as the call compensation committee and the UCLA DAPM Covid Task Force committee to cite a few. She also serves on the education committee of the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC).

In her new role as Director, Division of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology, Dr. Moreland will lead the clinical and academic missions of the division. The Division of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology supports the perioperative clinical care of patients with neurologic disease throughout the UCLA Health System. The faculty anesthesiologists on the team provide anesthesia care for patients undergoing a wide variety of elective, urgent and emergent neurosurgical and neuro-interventional procedures, including intracranial aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations, stroke, epilepsy, brain tumors, hydrocephalus, spastic cerebral palsy, Chiari malformation, movement disorders, and diseases of the spine.

In assuming the directorship of the division, Dr. Moreland succeeds Dr. Andrew Hudson who became the Chief of the Division of Anesthesiology at the West LA VA on July 1st, 2022.
