Center of Excellence in Perioperative Analytics
Working in close collaboration with the UCLA Office of Health Informatics and Analytics (OHIA), our division currently oversees and operates the UCLA Health System Center of Excellence (COE) in Perioperative Analytics. Based upon the Perioperative Data Warehouse, a custom-built architecture to streamline data extraction from EPIC, the COE is a major source of data throughout the entire perioperative period, and is the primary source of data for UCLA Health System Operative Services – the group responsible for operating room management.
The Perioperative Data Warehouse has been integrated with Tableau – a commercial analytics software and part of the UCLA Health Self-Service Strategy – to allow multiple users across the health system direct access to data via a series of web-based dashboards. These dashboards contain a wide variety of perioperative data, including administrative and clinical information:
- Surgical case duration, actual vs. estimated
- OR turnaround times
- Case volumes
- Length of hospital stay
- Reoperation rates
- Readmission rates
Each dashboard has embedded filters that allow the user to drill down to specific service lines, surgeons, and procedures, thereby providing a virtually infinite number of possible reports.
The COE serves as a source for data for other clinicians and users across UCLA Health, including the Emergency Department and the Clinical Documentation Improvement Team. We are always interested in working with others to help us provide better and more efficient care for our patients.
