Application

  1. Eligibility and Requirements

    Thank you for your interest in the UCLA Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship! Please note that in order to apply to our program you must be in the final year of residency in emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, or pediatrics.

    The UCLA Sports Medicine Fellowship Program participates in the Primary Care Sports Medicine Specialty Match organized by the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Registration with the NRMP is therefore required. To register please call (202) 828-0676 or visit the NRMP website.

    Starting in 2013, the UCLA Sports Medicine Fellowship adopted the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Please refer to the ERAS Fellowship Documents Office (EFDO) for details on how to register and complete the application visit their website.

    Please note that should you match with our program, you will be expected to obtain a California medical license by September 30, 2024. Currently, the processing time varies between 6 and 12 months. As such, we highly recommend that you take the USMLE Step 3 prior to the NRMP rank deadline. If you are a foreign medical graduate and do not have a California medical license, please contact Carole Barrinuevo, the program coordinator, for clarification of your eligibility for our program.   2. Application Form and Supplemental Documents

    Your application will be considered complete and will be reviewed when all of the following have been received:

    • Completed ERAS Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship application
    • Signed AMSSM Code of Ethics for the Match document (pdf)
    • A copy of the title page from your publication(s), if applicable
    • Copy of a current state medical license

    Please email the last three items to Carole Barrinuevo. 

    We will begin reviewing applications on August 1, 2023. The deadline to apply is September 15, 2023. Applications received after this date will not be reviewed.

  3. Interview Day

    Personal interviews will take place on selected dates in October through November.  Interview dates are listed below.

    • November 1, 2023
    • November 8, 2023

    • 7:30     Welcome and Overview of Interview 
    • 7:45     Meet the UCLA Sports Medicine faculty
    • 8:00     Individual interviews with faculty and fellows
    • 12:00   Sports Medicine Noon Conference
    • 1:15     Tour of Athletic Training Center and Campus
    • 1:45    Wrap up with Program Director
    • 2:00     End of Interview Day

    Pre-interview virtual events will be hosted by our fellows and held the evening prior to the interview day at approximately 6:00 p.m.
