Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center
Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, ranked No. 6 on the U.S. News & World Report 2019-2020 Best Hospitals Honor Roll, is situated on four acres on the UCLA campus in West Los Angeles. This state-of-the-art, 520 bed facility serves as home base for our cardiology fellows, and is where the majority of our fellows' rotations take place. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center is a 24-hour STEMI-receiving center and a tertiary and quaternary referral center, providing world-class care to some of the most critically ill patients on the West Coast. Fellows rotate through the cardiac ICU, cardiology consult service, cardiac catheterization lab, non-invasive lab, advanced heart failure service, cardiac electrophysiology service, and the adult congenital heart disease service.
At Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, fellows are exposed to the highest level of acuity cases and care for patients with complex congenital heart disease, rare clinical diagnoses and advanced mechanical circulatory support. As one of the nation's largest solid organ and hematologic transplant centers, fellows also work alongside the transplant teams and manage cardiac issues related to transplantation. This site offers junior and senior fellows the opportunity to develop their skills managing high acuity patients and busy consult services at a world class academic medical center, while working alongside internationally recognized leaders in academic cardiology.
Olive View-UCLA Medical Center
Olive View-UCLA Medical Center is a 377 bed academic county hospital located in the San Fernando Valley, approximately 25 miles north of the UCLA campus. The hospital provides care to a large, international patient population with otherwise limited access to healthcare and preventive services. Olive View is an internationally recognized Chagas Disease Center of Excellence, where fellows care for a large Chagas Cardiomyopathy patient population, as well as patients with end-stage complications of cardiac pathologies, including valvular complications of rheumatic heart disease, undiagnosed adult congenital cardiac issues, and management of acute and chronic coronary atherosclerotic pathologies. At Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, fellows rotate through the cardiology consult service, non-invasive lab, cardiac catheterization lab, and cardiac electrophysiology service. At Olive View, cardiology faculty take pride in providing high quality care and advocacy to this young, culturally diverse, and underserved patient population. This site allows our fellows to diagnose and manage end stage complications of a wide range of cardiac diseases, provide longitudinal preventive care, and working alongside a tight-knit and dedicated staff, learn to advocate for their patients and practice cost-effective medicine in a county hospital system.
VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System
The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, located just one mile west of Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, is one of the largest referral centers in the entire Veterans Administration Healthcare System. It provides everything from primary to tertiary care to veterans, and the hospital receives referrals from all over Southern California. The 262 bed facility is home to medical and surgical intensive care units, a cardiac telemetry unit, general medicine wards and an acute inpatient rehabilitation ward. The hospital campus also includes the 300 bed Extended Care and Rehabilitation Center and a 400 bed State Veterans Home. In addition to running the primary cardiology service, fellows also rotate through cardiology consults, cardiac electrophysiology consults, cardiac catheterization lab, non-invasive lab, and multiple ambulatory clinics with an active telehealth arm. This site provides junior and senior fellows the opportunity to master bread-and-butter cardiology concepts while providing care to our nation's veterans and their chronic medical conditions.
UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center
UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center is a 266 bed teaching community hospital. It underwent a major renovation in 2012, resulting in a beautiful, modern facility with all the amenities of a large community hospital, coupled with the latest in diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. At UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, fellows experience a community-based practice model, where they are responsible for evaluating and performing relevant non-invasive and invasive procedures, such as transesophageal echocardiography and cardiac catheterization on their patients for continuity, working closely with an assigned inpatient attending of the day. This site provides the opportunity for senior fellows to hone their procedural skills and to develop connections with the clinically based faculty at UCLA.
