Mentoring

The Brain-Gut Interactions Laboratory has been strongly dedicated to the mentoring of postdoctoral PhD and MD fellows for decades, and has contributed to the training of the first generation of successful PhD and clinician-scientist neurogastroenterologists. This dedication is exemplified by Dr. Taché receiving the Mentoring Award from the American Gastroenterological Association Council of Neurogastroenterology & Motility (research section) during the 2013 Digestive Diseases Week in Orlando. (Story in Beyond the Scope Spring 2013). Dr. Taché also was asked to contribute an article titled Personal Perspective on Mentoring to a section on mentoring, education and training in an issue of the Gastroenterology journal. She serves as co-director of the NIH DK007180 T32 research training grant directed by Dr. Dennis Jensen.


Past trainees

The Brain-Gut Interactions Laboratory has provided mentoring in neurogastroenterology to more than 60 trainees who come from 17 countries: Japan (16), France (10), USA (9), Germany (6), Canada (5), China (4), South Korea (3), Spain (3), Hungary (3), UK (2), Austria (2), Poland (1), Ukraine (1), Democratic Republic of Congo (1), Ethiopia (1), Turkey (1), Taiwan (1) and Norway (1). Many of these trainees now hold leadership positions and are pursuing research and teaching careers in basic and clinical departments at their universities of origin, or in pharmaceutical industries.
