Bio
Dr. Butler joined the UCLA faculty in 2019 as an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Assistant Director of the UCLA Immunogenetics Center, where she provides clinical laboratory testing for the solid organ and stem cell transplant communities. Dr. Butler earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine at the University of South Florida where her research involved identifying and characterizing cell cycle orthologs through mRNA co-expression, homology, and protein topology alignments to distinguish novel proteins with unique roles in Apicomplexa biology. She then completed her post-doctoral training with Dr. Elaine F. Reed in the Department of Pathology at UCLA working on the identification and validation of novel non-HLA antibodies involved in solid organ transplant rejection. After her post-doctoral research training, she completed a two year fellowship in clinical Immunogenetics and Histocompatibility Testing in the Division of Immunogenetics, Department of Pathology at UCLA. Her current research interests include HLA and non-HLA antibodies and their role in solid organ transplant rejection and the development of biomarkers for diagnosis and prevention of rejection.
