Joseph Chen

Joseph Chen, MD

Joseph was born in Mountain View, California but spent most of his formative years in Taipei, Taiwan. He subsequently returned to sunny California to study physiological science at the University of California, Los Angeles. He made the arduous journey 50 miles south to earn his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. He was ecstatic to return to UCLA to continue his training as a radiology resident. Following residency, Joseph plans to pursue a fellowship in neuroradiology. In his free time, he can be found doing pull-ups at the gym or scrambling for bogeys on the golf course. Joseph is honored to be a chief resident alongside Madhu, Mark, Vivian, and Zach and looks forward to help support the residents of a top-notch radiology residency program.

Vivian Hoang

Vivian Hoang, MD, MPH

Vivian was born and bred in New Orleans, Louisiana. She attended Tulane University where she studied Neuroscience. Her interest in community health and passion for health equity led her to stay local and pursue an MD/MPH at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. After spending most of her life in the bayou, she decided to venture out. She first migrated to Kansas City for intern year and then settled in Los Angeles for radiology residency. When Vivian is not in the reading room, you might find her running along the boardwalk with her soul dog Sophie, wiping out on a wave in Venice Beach, enjoying her neighborhood taqueria, or exploring new communities in Los Angeles. Vivian is honored to serve as Chief Resident along her dream team - Madhu, Joseph, Mark, and Zach - and looks forward to supporting her coresidents’ wellbeing and educational experience. After residency, she plans to complete an Abdominal Imaging/Cross-Sectional IR fellowship.

Madhu Joshi

Madhu Joshi, MD

Madhu grew up in the Bay Area and completed her undergraduate degree in Economics and Molecular & Cell Biology at UC Berkeley. She pursued her medical degree at SUNY Downstate in New York where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. After a cold four years, she was excited to return to sunny California for residency. She loves living in Los Angeles and trying new restaurants while exploring the endless outdoor activities that SoCal has to offer. Madhu is in the Integrated IR Residency at UCLA and looks forward to working with her fellow co-chiefs this year to make this already amazing residency the best that it can be.

Mark McArthur

Mark McArthur, MD, MA

Mark is from Frankfort, Illinois. He completed his undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Illinois. After an extended hiatus working in clinical research, he found his way to medical school at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He eventually traded in the traffic of Chicago for the traffic of Los Angeles and came to UCLA for radiology residency. Mark spends most of his free time hanging out with his partner, feeding his three cats, and of course moonlighting. Following residency, he plans to continue his training with neuroradiology fellowship. He is beyond honored to serve as chief resident alongside Joseph, Vivian, Madhu, and Zach, and hopes to foster the academic growth and camaraderie of this fantastic residency program.

Zachary Winchester

Zachary Winchester, MD

Zach was born and raised close to UCLA in Encino, CA. After attending UC Berkeley for undergraduate, Georgetown University for medical school, and after a brief stint in Salt Lake City for his intern year, he was excited to return to southern California for his residency training. Zach and his fiancée live in the Thousand Oaks area (he somehow makes the commute work) and are getting married in the summer of 2024. In his spare time, Zach enjoys getting outdoors and playing beach volleyball, golfing, and playing the piano and guitar. He likes to think he can surf, but he spends more time paddling than catching waves. Zach will be pursuing neuroradiology for fellowship and is looking forward to his chief year where he hopes to do his best in supporting his co-residents and improving their training experience at UCLA.
