Education and Training
Welcome & Overview
The Department of Radiation Oncology at UCLA has a long-standing tradition of excellence in the training of practitioners, educators and/or scientific investigators in the broad field of oncology as well as its many site-specific specialties. Many of our trainees are now in leadership roles both here and at institution across the world.
As an integral component of the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, the Department proudly plays a major role in the educational missions of both institutions. At the student level, the Department is actively involved in many pre-clinical courses and is responsible for successful ambulatory and research clerkships, as well as a highly rated biomedical physics graduate program. In post-graduate training, the Department offers accredited residency programs in clinical radiation oncology and medical physics, as well as a brachytherapy fellowship. In addition, the Department of Radiation Oncology provides educational support to multiple affiliated hospitals in Southern California through quality assurance, lectures, seminars, and teaching rounds.
Our faculty are universally committed to creating a dynamic and supportive academic environment for all of our trainees and students. Mentorship is highly valued at UCLA, and the utmost emphasis is placed on sustaining a climate where free-thinking and intellectual inquiry thrive. We take pride in avoiding a “one size fits all” mentality to education and view our trainees and students as individuals with specific interests, talents, and aspirations. Qualities such as hard work, friendship, respect, and collegiality always take precedent, and we aim to provide the appropriate balance of autonomy and nurturing so that our trainees and students can attain their loftiest academic/personal goals.
Ultimately, we measure our academic success as a Department largely by the individual success of our trainees and students. If you are browsing this website because of an interest in any of our educational programs please see our Residency and Fellowship Recruitment page, please do not hesitate to contact us personally if questions arise.
Sincerely,
