John Charters, PhD
Dr. John Charters was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest—Lake Oswego, Oregon, and later Woodinville, Washington. Dr. Charters graduated from the University of Notre Dame with bachelor’s degrees in physics and mathematics. He then received a master’s degree in theoretical physics from UCLA, followed by a PhD in Medical Physics through the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
While a PhD student, Dr. Charters studied a wide variety of radiation oncology physics topics, including respiratory gating dosimetry on ViewRay, stereoscopic radiographs for ExacTrac IGRT, and respiratory motion modeling. His doctoral research projects focused on developing artificial intelligence models to detect vertebral-body misalignments and automated methods to evaluate prostate cancer treatment plans. Dr. Charters is passionate about applying his mathematical and data science skills toward improving radiation oncology workflows and the quality of cancer care.
