UCLA Cardiology Fellowship Training Program
UCLA is pleased to offer a comprehensive selection of fellowship training opportunities including a focused clinical tract or combined research and clinical training leading to an advanced degree (STAR). All applicants will receive training in clinical cardiology at 1) Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, one of the nation's premiere medical centers, 2) Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, a 377-bed county hospital located in the north end of the San Fernando Valley, 3) VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, one of the most comprehensive health care facilities with 832 beds within the VA network located in West Los Angeles, and 4) Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center, a 266 inpatient bed community hospital which provides acute cardiac care to Santa Monica. In the STAR track, comprehensive training in clinical cardiology is combined with training in basic science and clinical cardiovascular research. Advanced research training in basic science, health services, and in clinical research is available through the UCLA STAR Program, which leads to a PhD degree or MS degree in clinical research. Opportunities exist for clinical research training in electrophysiology, noninvasive cardiology, interventional cardiology, heart failure/transplantation, preventive cardiology, and adult congenital heart disease.

Program Overview
The Divisions of Cardiology at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center, Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, and West LA VA Medical Center are pleased to offer fellowship training in cardiology. Successful applicants will receive comprehensive training in clinical cardiology at one of the Nation's most premier Medical Centers and Schools of Medicine. There are two training tracks offered, both of which offer exemplary clinical training in the practice of cardiovascular medicine.
The Clinical Training track offers comprehensive clinical training in cardiovascular medicine over 2 years with one additional year of clinical research. Additional sub-specialty in Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Heart Failure, Heart Transplantation, and Adult Congenital Heart Disease is also available on a selective basis.
The second track known as the Specialty Training and Advanced Research (STAR) track offers trainees the same comprehensive clinical training over 2 years with additional intensive research training in an innovative career track. This STAR program is intended for physicians committed to academic careers. The UCLA Department of Medicine offers PhD training combined with fellowship training as part of the research training. STAR Awardees complete clinical training toward board certification in cardiology as well as research training to complete a masters, PhD or a postdoctoral fellowship under the guidance of a faculty advisory panel representing the awardee's clinical and research interests. The PhD is completed over a three to four year period for total of five to six year training period. A Masters of clinical research is completed over a two to three year period for a total of four to five year training period. Additional sub-specialty training is also available on a selective basis.
