About Us
The MICU is a state-of-the-art 24 bed unit equipped to manage critical illness. Our physicians are board-certified in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine, providing critical care services to patients suffering life-threatening illnesses such as (but not limited to) shock, sepsis (severe infections), pneumonia, acute respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation, acute kidney injury possibly requiring hemodialysis, gastrointestinal bleed, complications of cancers, and severe metabolic abnormalities. Our nurses are critical care trained, dedicated to their profession, and are highly motivated to deliver the best possible care to our patients. Other members of our excellent team include respiratory therapists, pharmacists, physical & occupational therapists, dieticians, social workers and case managers.
We have a special focus on the following:
- Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), providing cutting edge care through clinical trials sponsored by the National Institutes of Health
- Severe sepsis/septic shock, providing cutting edge critical care through interventional clinical trials
- Pulmonary artery hypertension
- Complications of advanced lung disease
- Pre- and post-transplant lung transplant patients
- Airway diseases amenable to interventional pulmonology therapies
- Advanced airway management
